When you tell me about how many Black men were killed by police, also tell me how many of them were armed, how many of them were assaulting the police, how many of them were being arrested for the commission of a violent crime; because if you can’t tell me any of those crucial elements, then you don’t actually need to be saying anything at all, and you should turn your attention to some topic that you are actually serious enough about to become informed.
What I can tell you is that of the 236 Black people who were killed last year by the police, all were armed except 10.
In over half of those shootings, the suspects physically attacked the police. In the remainder, the police were threatened by suspects with weapons they claimed to possess, and in one case the officer’s weapon discharged accidentally. In 2 of these 10 cases officers were charged.
10 cases of police shootings of unarmed Black people, and in all but 2 cases the police were either attacked or threatened; this being corroborated by civilian witnesses (most of whom were Black), and in nearly all of these cases, police were called to the scene by Black victims or concerned Black citizens.
The Black Lives Matter rhetoric is utterly divorced from reality, and anyone who jumps on that bandwagon, quite frankly, is not serious about the issues; about identifying the genuine racial problems in the United States, and about trying to fix them.
