The historical complaint of Black communities in the United Stat…

Posted on June 10, 2020 by Shahid Bolsen

The historical complaint of Black communities in the United States about the police has been two-fold: first that they are unresponsive and lax about violent crime in Black neighborhoods; and second, that they habitually use excessive force on Black suspects.

Those are fair criticisms. Completely removing police from Black neighborhoods would, obviously, drastically exacerbate the first problem, even if it eliminates the second. I am not sure this is a winning trade-off. It sounds to me like the very old White racist “Final Solution” of “let the Black people kill each other”. Particularly given the fact that police shootings of unarmed African-Americans only account for 0.3% of Black homicide victims.
