When we were growing up, there were always those kids who did really well in school; who were particularly dutiful about homework, who were always reading, didn’t goof around, and got good grades. We all knew these people would be the successful ones and the rest of us would probably be working low end jobs. And pretty much, we were right; but now some of us complain about the disparate outcomes, as if it is some sort of mystery the only explanation for which is a “rigged system”.

That’s a pretty punk move on our part, let’s be honest. A hell of a lot of income inequality can be explained by effort inequality.
