A supplementary note regarding the accommodationist, conciliatory approach to da’awah:
There is no single individual in modern times who has been the cause of more Americans entering Islam than Malcolm X. Though he was only genuinely a Muslim for a few months of his life before he was murdered (may Allah accept him as a martyr), millions of people have embraced the truth because of their admiration for this man, including myself.
We admired him precisely because of his uncompromising, confrontational, fearless indictment of the racist, hypocritical, violent and corrupt society we lived in. He was blunt, straightforward, and unflinching in his criticism, and he spoke truths that no one wanted to face; even truths he himself hated to recognize when he finally realized that the deviant organization he belonged to had no relation with authentic Islam.
My own religious journey for knowledge would never have included learning about Islam had it not been for Malcolm X. I could not help but admire his tremendous discipline and strength, and when I knew that he had embraced Islam, only then did I begin to consider that this Deen must have value, and I began to study Islam. No man who cared so passionately about justice, and who hated injustice so severely, could have embraced a belief system unless it was, indeed, the solution.
His da’awah was the da’awah of uncompromising indictment and warning, and no one could defeat his argument.
Malcolm X is the father of American Muslims, we are his tribe, and we advocate his method of da’awah; because it is right, and because it works
