I think that what is likely coming in Syria as a result of the war will probably be the worst and most severe implementation of the neoliberal program we’ve ever seen.
Among the global powers, it is fairly clear that the plan seems to be to not provide decisive support to either side, but to simply let the destruction rumble on to maximum effect.
The resulting total devastation will create ideal conditions for the most extreme macroeconomic reforms, and, of course, provide a massive bonanza for Multinationals in terms of reconstruction and so on.
One year after this process is underway, the people will surely wonder what on earth they fought for. It will be a worse nightmare than what they have been opposing…and even more difficult to overcome
