There is a reason why Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala warned us so many times in the Qur’an to not befriend the Kuffar, to not trust them or believe their promises, and to not be fooled by their smiles and friendly manner. There is a reason why He reminds us again and again, that they want to corrupt us and turn us away from Islam. The reason is that we continuously forget. No matter how many times Allah tells us, and no matter how much our own experience proves it, we forget.
هَآأَنتُمْ أُوْلاءِ تُحِبُّونَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِبُّونَكُمْ
Yes, you love them. You love them so much that you make excuses for their hatred. “…They don’t understand…”, “…the Jews are manipulating them…”, “..they killed our women and children by accident…” etc.
You love them so much that you say we caused their hatred and violence by our own actions.
You love them so much that you can’t stand the idea that they are worried or offended or that they disapprove of you, and you rush to assure them and accommodate them.
Why, you love them so much that they can bomb your house and you run to them for shelter.
As if you can’t stand for your blood to stain their clothes while they are killing you, so extreme is your love for them.
لاَ يَأْلُونَكُمْ خَبَالاً وَدُّواْ مَا عَنِتُّمْ
Some have gone so far in their love for them that they will defend the right of the Kuffar to slander Rasulullah ﷺ himself! Could they corrupt you more than this?
Allah said:
قَدْ بَدَتِ الْبَغْضَآءُ مِنْ أَفْوَهِهِمْ وَمَا تُخْفِى صُدُورُهُمْ أَكْبَرُ
Think about what they say openly, how much hatred and slander they express publicly…imagine then what is actually raging in their hearts! Do not wonder about their intentions, and do not expect good from them. When you want to analyze their policies begin from this point.
