On Open Source Revolution and leadership…
Once the “software” is developed, meaning the basic strategic concept, anyone can adapt it and implement it, modify it and improve it according to circumstances .
For any particular action, there needs to be coordination, of course, but I am extremely resistant to any centralization or hierarchical structure for revolutionaries. Obviously this is a vulnerability.
I am also wary of two particular dangers regarding “leadership”. Namely, the psychologically disempowering effect of dependence upon a “leader” and how this stifles independent creative development of strategy and tactics; and on a real practical level, there is a serious danger for “leaders” to become tools of power to control, manage, and de-mobilize resistance. This has happened countless times in the history of opposition movements.
