In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, multinational corporations took over Latin America. Companies like Bechtel, Unilever, Phillip Morris, Danone and so on, dominated countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Brazil; not only economically, but politically.
They achieved this level of power not only through neoliberal structural adjustment reforms, but also through military coups, state violence, and paramilitary death squads. The result was sever repression, strife, hundreds of thousands dead, massive income inequality, poverty, illiteracy, disease, and general socioeconomic devastation.
Now these same reforms are being imposed on Egypt, by the same companies, by the same methods, and you can expect the same results.
The neoliberal crusade is a much broader project than merely the subjugation of Egypt, but Egypt is a crucial conquest that will enable the wider campaign against the Arab Muslim world.
We have, in Egypt, the opportunity to pioneer a new strategy of resistance that will have global ramifications in the struggle against the corporate tawagheet, the neoliberal imperialists who are spreading their destructive control all over the world.
We, the Muslims, are the only nation equipped to defeat them.
