One of the reasons Egypt is of such tremendous and urgent significance is because, in my opinion, the single most important practical goal we must have is the liberation of Palestine.
I see the sovereignty and independence of Egypt as a crucial step towards this goal, and the enslavement of Egypt under neoliberalism as a severe setback that undermines this goal.
