Tips on how to deal with torture…
In the past I have written about the need for revolutionaries to train themselves in preparation for the abuse they will face if (may Allah forbid) they are arrested. Recently I have seen leaked videos of beatings in Roumieh prison in Lebanon, so I would like to reiterate this point again.
What was shown in the videos, frankly, is the least of what takes place
While recitation of Qur’an is indeed a great neutralizer of pain, and a means of strengthening endurance (and I can personally attest to that), it is important to prepare yourself not only spiritually, but physically and psychologically as well
Being stripped, hands bound behind the back, and beaten with rubber or plastic pipes by several police simultaneously is absolutely standard practice.
If you are arrested, this will happen. If this is the only abuse you suffer, you will have escaped what is much worse. These injuries are mostly superficial, causing severe bruising, and of course, at the moment of being struck, intense, sharp pain.
Regarding this, I would like to strongly advise brothers to try hard to be physically fit, and to lose as much excess body fat as possible. The sting of the pipes is much more intense when striking fat than when striking muscle. This, of course, is true for any other type of weapon used, as well; clubs, sticks, and electric batons.
When being struck on the back, with your hands tied behind you, try to straighten your back and pull your shoulder blades together, this will protect your spine, and allow you to absorb the strikes primarily on the shoulders. You should work on your flexibility so that this position becomes easy for you.
You should also make yourself accustomed to ice cold water. For example, you can train yourself by taking cold showers with your clothes on, and staying in the wet clothes until they dry.
Allah said:
“…وَلَوْ أَرَادُواْ الْخُرُوجَ لأَعَدُّواْ لَهُ عُدَّةً…”
“…And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it some preparation….” (9:46)
May Allah protect you all
