Building core and leg strength can’t be emphasized enough for improving Conflict Fitness. Despite what you might think, in hand-to-hand confrontations, the power for everything you do comes from your legs and core muscles, not your arms.

A man with big muscular arms and torso (what most brothers try to develop in the gym), but with skinny legs, is a man who is not well equipped to fight.

The power of a push or a punch comes from the forward thrust of the legs and the swivel of the hips; your arms must stay loose and relaxed, and do very little actual work. The power to resist a push or a punch comes from the strength of your core and sturdiness of your legs; and your ability to keep your balance. If your upper body is too bulky, and your legs too thin, you will be too top heavy and it will be that much more difficult to stay on your feet.
