Amid the constant flow of bad economic news from Egypt; the plummeting value of the Egyptian pound, the rise in prices for basic goods, the growing debt, and so on; you must understand that none of this weakens the regime.
It is the primary function of Sisi, and any dictator within the imperial system, to demolish the domestic economy for the benefit of his masters. The more there is disastrous news about Egypt’s economy, the more it means that Sisi is successfully implementing the neoliberal agenda of the international business community he serves. His institutional role is to cripple Egypt and ensure the impossibility of economic independence.
That was Mursi’s institutional role too, of course, but he wasn’t as capable of bludgeoning Egypt into submission with such sufficient brutality and efficiency as the army, for obvious reasons. He had the fatal flaw of concern for the population and the risky defect of democratic legitimacy; traits which disqualify anyone from a managerial role within the Empire of Capital.
There is no way to liberate Egypt except through the disruption of the imperial system. The most that can be accomplished by targeting the regime is to have the regime replaced by the imperial masters with one that is more efficient and more brutal. Only by imposing consequences on multinationals and foreign investors can you hope to achieve economic sovereignty and political independence.
