It is important to define your identity according to what can never be taken away from you.

This is something I always knew instinctively, even in my teenage years. Your job, your family, your talents, your appearance, your social status; all can be taken from you. As long as any aspect of your identity is connected to that from which you can be disconnected, you are vulnerable, and that vulnerability leaves you under a kind of tyranny.

Finally, when I came to Islam, I discovered that source of identity which can never be taken away:

Worship.

Understanding yourself exclusively as a slave and worshiper of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, liberates you completely from any threat to your identity, and no one can have power over you. Anyone who has consciously chosen Islam is essentially a revolutionary, and anyone who has consciously chosen revolution, must eventually come to Islam; it is the natural progression of liberation
