Posted on November 4, 2015 by Shahid Bolsen

We finally had all our group in the telephone room. We had tried to time it so that the shift on duty would be one in which the police were known to be negligent and weak; but there had been a change in the schedule, so we had to make do with a shift we did not prefer.

I called my contact outside to confirm that the getaway car was at the designated location, waiting for us. The young Afghani man had arranged for this, but i had someone waiting outside the prison to confirm it. The others made their calls, and then I signaled them that it was time to move.

Khalid left the phone room first, and went to the door to the reception area to create a diversion. The plan was that he would say he wanted to talk to an officer; the police would inevitably refuse, and he would insist loudly. I was to come over to him to try to calm him down. He had already announced his Islam, so he and I were once again openly talking as friends and brothers. When I went to Khalid, I was to strike any guards present, and run through the door, and keep running all the way to the last door that opened to the street, if the way was open. The others were to follow me, closing the reception office door behind them to lock out all the police in the corridor.

I followed Khalid out the phone room, and saw the medicine trolley between the reception office door and the phone room. This was bad. At lest two extra police accompanied the medicine trolley. But Khalid was already at the reception office door, demanding to see an officer before I could tell him to abort the plan.

Khalid succeeded in causing a row at the reception door, and i came to intervene. As soon as I was next to him, I looked into the reception office and saw only one guard standing by the desk. There was a guard in front of Khalid, preventing him from entering, and a guard on his other side trying to pull him back. I immediately pushed the guard nearest me, sending him flying backwards with a shocked look on his face.

I didn’t even wait to see him hit the floor before I turned and ran through the door, knocking the other guard down. The police supervisor who was standing at the desk just looked at me, frozen. I turned to see if the door that led out of the building was open; it was; so I just threatened the supervisor with a raised fist, and he backed away. I ran out the door, never looking behind me. Everything was going perfectly
