The greatest calamity this Ummah ever suffered, a catastrophe that reduced every Muslim on the face of the earth to tears, was the death of Rasulullah ï·º we have never, and will never suffer a disaster worse than this.
We have passed through periods of extreme hardship; the Fitnah between Emir ul-Mu’mineen Ali bin Abi Talib and Mu’awiyyah, the massacre of Hussein, the siege of the Ka’aba against Abdullah bin Zubayr, the bloody tyranny of Hajjaj bin Yusuf, the viscous reign of the Fatimid state, the Crusades, the fall of Al-Andalus, Western colonialism, Soviet occupation and the imposition of Atheism, Secularization and the dismantling of the Ottoman Empire, etc, etc. And today, the neoliberal crusade that seeks to dominate not only our economies, but even to corrupt our internal lives and beliefs.
But no, what we are suffering now is not the worst situation our Ummah has faced. In fact, we are living, al-Hamdulillah, in a period of widespread guidance and great opportunity. Overwhelming majorities throughout the Muslim world want Shari’ah government; it is a great blessing that we only have to strive to achieve this, and not that we have to strive to educate the Muslims to want it. The niqab is being banned in the West, while it was never banned before, precisely because more and more sisters are wearing it. The influence of Islam has spread to every corner of the globe, and the primary conflict in the world today is recognized to be between kufr and imaan.
It is inappropriate and ungrateful for us to bemoan our situation. We have the privilege of living in an era in which we are tasked with the same noble mission of the Salaf-us-Salah; to establish Allah’s Supremacy on the earth , to do battle with false ideologies and illegitimate systems of power. That is a tremendous honor Allah has bestowed upon this generation. He has opened the door for us to enormous rewards if we undertake this Cause; how then, can we lament?
