The same way that life in prison is a microcosm of life under totalitarian dictatorship, so too, liberation from tyranny is similar to a prison escape.
As I have written before, there are many stages to a prison escape, and many obstacles that have to be passed one by one.
For example, you have to get out of your cell, out of the cell block, out of the building, and out of the perimeter wall of the compound. After all that, you have to figure out how to evade capture.
Most prisoners do not proceed with an escape beyond simply dreaming about what they will do once they are free; and this is what many in the population do with regards to liberating themselves from dictatorship; dream of freedom.
They do not analyze the system, do not plan ways to circumvent it, do not prepare, and do not take action.
The strategy of targeting multinational corporations and foreign investments is a stage in the plan for liberation; no, it is not the entire plan, but it is a vital and necessary phase.
It is crucial to be able to commandeer the power of global capital, whether to force it to support revolutionary demands, or at least to neutralize it.
If we cannot recruit (through pressure and disruption) the power of multinationals in support of our cause, we can force them to withdraw their support for their appointed tyrants who are oppressing us; and we can at least drive them out of the policy-making process.
Without this, sovereignty and independence cannot exist.
It is theoretically possible to achieve political independence once economic sovereignty is attained; but the key to achieving this is the establishment of a mechanism for punishing corporations and imposing consequences on private sector political power.
Once this is established, we can move forward into the stage of consolidating political control.
