Since the end of World War II, the United States has backed at least 35 overthrows of governments around the world to install loyal client regimes.

Wherever this has not succeeded, America has been content to simply create chaos in the countries to ensure that organized opposition to US interests cannot be effectively mobilized.

If you believe that the US promotes democracy around the world, I regret your ignorance of history.

From well-known overthrows like Mossadegh in Iran to the assassination of Allende in Chile, and the coup against Patrice Lamumba in the Congo, to lesser known plots in Albania, Greece, Ghana, and Myanmar; America has consistently, and violently, subverted democracy wherever people make the mistake of forgetting that their natural resources belong to the US and that the definition of “sovereignty” in the developing world is actually “subordinate”.

There is a quantifiable relationship between US foreign aid, dictatorship, and human rights violations. A list of 20 of the world’s most ruthless tyrannies finds that the US has funded 19 of them; including official enemies like North Korea.

Here it is important to understand that democratic government was first overthrown within the United States itself.

Remember, the word “democracy” does not appear in the US Constitution. In America, voting is a privilege, not a right. Government “of, for, and by the people” is a principle in rhetoric, not a legal guarantee.

Corporate donations to political candidates are unrestricted, tens of thousands of corporate lobbyists work in Washington DC, literally writing legislation for the politicians their companies own; the US government has become a private contractor providing a multitude of services to coalitions of corporations and their shareholders.

Promoting democracy abroad would endanger the commercial interests of these elites, as democratic governments may tend to prioritize the needs of their populations over the obligation to contribute to corporate profitability.
