Imagine that you are working for a company. You are just a regular employee; low salary, no insurance, no special benefits. When one day you are given the opportunity to meet with the owner of the company.
He tells you that you can ask him for anything; anything at all, and he will agree.
Now imagine that you ask him for a different stapler to use at your desk. You ask him to have someone fix the wheels on your chair because they don’t roll easily. You ask him for something to tie the cables together of your phone and computer because they sometimes get tangled up. You ask him for a whole list of mundane little things like this.
He has offered you anything you want, even to become the president of the company; but you use the opportunity to ask for such trivial things.
Sometimes I think our du’aa is like this.
If you asked the company owner to make you the president, would you really care about your stapler?
If you ask Allah, Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, for Jennah, for His Pleasure, for closeness to Him…and He is ready to grant it..would you really care about any of the other petty little problems you make du’aa about?
