There is apparently going to be a new set of demonstrations in Egypt set for the 11th of November, under the banner “Poor Peoples’ Revolution”…I have never understood the logic behind announcing these things. I mean, I understand that you want to inform the public, and try to mobilize, but of course, you are also notifying the authorities, and it seems almost to doom the effort before you even get started.
Facebook is no longer the place to organize demonstrations or any other sort of opposition activity, frankly. The Egyptian Intelligence services, I think, do little else besides browsing Facebook to follow what the revolutionaries are doing.
But a Poor Peoples’ Revolution is a very good idea, assuming there is sufficient grassroots work going on to organize support and awareness, and to educate the public about the economic issues.
I hope that, if there IS a demonstration on November 11th, that the protesters will raise slogans that are actually relevant, and address the core issues of neoliberalism, debt colonization, and the usurping of economic sovereignty.
