This is the situation:
Egypt owes multinational energy corporations around $6 billion because Egypt has used too much of its own resources to meet domestic demand, instead of supplying foreign companies with oil and natural gas to sell for profit.
This is why Sisi has raised prices and imposed blackouts on the population; to pay the multinationals for the losses they have suffered from being denied the right to plunder Egypt’s natural resources.
And this is why Egypt is buying natural gas from Israel, since without it, the multinationals might incur more losses if Egypt used its resources for its own domestic needs instead of the needs of companies like BG Group and Apache to turn a profit.
In short, you have to buy energy from Israel to pay the multinationals what you owe for what you didn’t let them steal, and so you can still have the lights on while they rob you of what is left. And, in order to make sure that Israel will have enough energy to sell you, they have to destroy Gaza to seize control of THEIR energy resources.
Basically,the new source of alternative energy for Egypt is the blood of Gaza.
