Please do not tell me that the average person cannot understand the basic economics of what is happening in Egypt, and that, therefore, you should not even bother to try to explain it to them, but instead incite them with empty religious rhetoric and divert them with pointless issues. When people are hungry, they know it. When they can’t afford to pay for basic necessities, they know it. When their salary is worth less in the market because the currency has been devalued, they know it. When local shop owners go out of business because they can’t compete with a hypermarket franchise, they know it.
All you have to do is NOT lie to them by saying that all of these problems are exclusively because of the existence of Abdel-Fatah el-Sisi. Al you have to do is explain that their suffering is caused because the government is controlled by huge international corporations which impose policies that enrich themselves and impoverish everyone else. It is not complicated.
So-called “leaders” among the Islamists have been telling me for three years that no one can comprehend what is causing their suffering. That is not only a lie, but it displays a grotesque contempt for the people whom they supposedly care about and fight for.
