At least two things need to happen, and I believe they need to happen in this order:
First, corporate influence over government policy needs to be democratized; that is, corporations must be forced by a variety of means, to use their unparalleled influence over policy to reflect the interests of the population and to serve the public interest. At least one of the methods for pursuing this democratization is through disruption of corporate profitability and operational efficiency.
Second, corporations themselves have to be democratized internally. Workers themselves must receive a share in company profits, and play a role in corporate decision-making. There are many models and examples of worker-controlled companies around the world (in Spain, Italy, Greece, France, and even in Tunisia and Egypt). They are highly efficient and profitable, and benefit their local communities rather than exploit and impoverish them. This is the future for the private sector.
