The American people are naturally inclined towards an isolationist foreign policy, and Trump advocated that in his campaign, no doubt to appeal to this inclination among voters. If he really does this it would be good. But if “isolationist” means support for dictators rather than actual neutrality and disengagement, then of course, that would be bad; and I tend to think this is what he means.
