Some people have claimed that the strategy of targeting Multinational corporations and the interests of foreign investors is an indirect and long road to victory. This reflects a serious misunderstanding about power in Egypt today. Not only is it the quickest way, it is the ONLY way to victory. And it is far easier than what you have been doing.
A year of anti-Coup demonstrations chanting “legitimacy” and “Down, Down Military Rule! Islamiyya Islamiyya!” has resulted in Egypt having the best performing stock market in the world, billions of dollars of investments, the unopposed implementation of nearly every IMF reform, and, of course, the marked decrease in the numbers of people willing to revolt, or even resist. It has resulted in a decrease in hope and an increase in fatigue for the population.
The power and control of the multinational corporate system is being consolidated and strengthened every day; and with every futile, ineffective, misdirected tactic of the opposition, it becomes harder and harder to build resistance.
Stop focusing on the government. It is a subsidiary. Understand that you are essentially in an anti-imperialist struggle for independence, or at least for autonomy. If you cannot free the government from corporate control, at least you can pressure the multinationals to use the government in ways that reflect your interests and values.
As long as you focus on government, and not on those who control it, nothing can improve.
