The reason Donald Trump wants to scrap the Affordable Care Act in the US has nothing to do with the high price of treatment under the plan. The costs are largely irrelevant to ordinary people, because the costs are covered by the insurance No, he doesn’t want to repeal it because the costs are high, he wants to repeal it because of how the costs are being paid.
“Obamacare” is being paid for by two taxes on the rich; a 0.9% tax on anyone with an earned income over $200,000 per year, and a 3.8% tax on owned wealth (for eample, stocks and bonds) over $200,000; and this is what Trump objects to; but of course, he can’t say that, so instead he says he wants to repeal the program because it does not reduce medical costs. He could just as easily introduce new legislation to reduce medical costs, if that were his primary concern, but it isn’t.
The repeal of Obamacare will benefit millionaires in the US, and leave at least 20 million people without health insurance.
