The protests against #Trump’s #MuslimBan have caused a lot of Muslims to become emotional over the expressions of sympathy and solidarity. Well, I hate to break it to you, but you’re setting yourself up for major disappointment if you really believe that any of these demonstrations have anything whatsoever to do with solidarity with Muslims.
Being official pariahs makes us a useful platform for American liberals to showcase their kindness and goodness and righteous indignation. The same liberals who supported Obama throughout his 8 year drone assassination campaign, his continuation of Guantanamo prison, his acceptance of the coup in Egypt, and his policy of destabilising the entire Middle East and North Africa.
No. They are anti-Trump, not pro-Muslim. And they will turn on you in the blink of an eye.
You should also understand that their “solidarity” comes with strings attached. “We stood with you on immigration, so you should stand with us on Gay marriage” or what have you. Nothing is free in the “Land of the Free”. So don’t get all weepy about their big hearts and generous spirits. We’re just a political football for them. No more, no less.
