Really, I am so sick and tired of this ludicrous statement, that is taken as a truism, “religion has been behind most of the wars and bloodshed throughout history”. First of all, most of the “religious” wars referred to were actually denominational wars between European Christians, and had, in fact, very little to do with religion at all.
The violence committed since the advent of Secularism and Atheistic government far exceeds what preceded it. The United States, British Colonialism, Stalin and the Soviet Union, the Nazis, and so on, were all secular, and the combined casualties they inflicted upon humanity are unprecedented; as are the “advancements” they made in the technology of killing.
So the next time you hear someone spout this rubbish, call them on it. They have no idea what they are talking about.
