Companies are going to have to start viewing their core consumers as constituents, not just customers. Insofar as a company wields political power, lobbies legislatures, funds political campaigns, negotiates with governments for contracts, etc; they are going to have to start positioning themselves as representatives of their consumer constituencies, not just the interests of their shareholders; because people are increasingly aware of the political power of the private sector, and they are going to start demanding public accountability, and this will be imposed through consumer choices.
