Today’s event was supposed to take place in front of the Myanmar…

Posted on August 30, 2017 by Shahid Bolsen

Today’s event was supposed to take place in front of the Myanmar Embassy. The embassy requested high security, and participants had to hold the event at a roundabout down the block.

Apparently, after the event, many participants moved towards an intersection near Ampang Park Mall, and held an impromptu protest in the street, which led to several Rohingya being arrested.

The police granted permission for the event near the embassy, and that event passed without incident. Permission was not granted for a demonstration at the intersection, which is quite busy and in a popular tourist area. Security in Kuala Lumpur is already high due to the SEA Games, and it should have been anticipated that an impromptu demonstration would not be tolerated by the authorities. This was a mistake on the part of demonstrators in my view.

@EdB61 That would be such an honour.

That has not happened yet.

Inshallah one day @ShahidkBolsen

I learnt how geopolitics really works from his work.

That was a turning point for me. 🫡
