This may be the greatest irony of our age:
The rise of totalitarian corporate power provides us with the greatest mechanism for democracy the world has ever known.
How is this possible?
Because, the fact of the matter is that corporations ARE accountable; just not by the conventionally recognised channels of accountability.
They are accountable to market forces. And we the people control market forces.
We are the market.
At the end of the day, we are the ones who determine whether or not any corporate decision is profitable or unprofitable. That is something that is entirely in our hands.
