So one of the things being used to argue that the #MuslimBrotherhood should be designated as a terrorist organisation is a memorandum from 1991 called “THE GENERAL STRATEGIC GOAL FOR THE GROUP IN NORTH AMERICA”. In it the Ikhwan talk about their grandiose strategy for a “civilizational jihad” against the West.
I can see how it would be alarming to a congressman, but honestly, this document is just embarrassing.
It says, “The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions”
OK, this sound pretty aggressive, and frankly a bit Pinky and the Brain-ish. And, really, reading it now, some 30 years after the Ikhwan agreed to implement it, you are struck by nothing more than the abject failure of this organisation to even come close to achieving their pathologically delusional vision.
Except for the pseudo-intellectual complexity of the language they use, one would guess this document was written by a teenage Jihadi in his mother’s basement.
And it isn’t like we don’t have other ambitious sociopolitical movements to contrast with the Ikhwan’s utter incompetence. Just look at where the LGBT community was 30 years ago and look where they are today! Look at how they succeeded in drastically changing the attitudes in the US and the West in general. Whereas Muslims are MORE hated today than they were in 1991, MORE maligned, MORE suspect, and the great, moderate geniuses of the Muslim Brotherhood are potentially about to be designated as a terrorist organisation!
Seriously, if only congress could read this document with the eyes of a Muslim, if they tremble when reading it, they would be trembling from laughter not fear.
