Sudan is not Egypt. I have begun hearing this already. And of course, Sudan is not Libya nor Syria, nor Tunisia nor Yemen. It is not any country where revolution failed. Sudan is different. In Sudan people have been oppressed for decades by a corrupt regime which looted the country’s wealth. In Sudan, the only solution is overthrow of the government. Every single disastrous example of revolution in the region is irrelevant. In Sudan, it will work. In Sudan it will result in a just and egalitarian society. In Sudan, there are no external pressures, there are no forces beyond the government whose interests are served by the regime’s exploitative policies. In Sudan, the only thing that needs to happen is the ouster of the government. Sudan exists in a vacuum. There are no geopolitical or socioeconomic contexts which will continue to influence any new government’s choices. Private sector power is not a factor. Rise up and topple the government, and all will be well.
Right?
