#Sudan is facing serious economic realities. How these will be dealt with will determine the extent to which the daily lives of the population improve or deteriorate. Bashir has made a number of concessions aimed at making Sudan more attractive to foreign investors; including the Austerity measures demanded by the IMF.
If Bashir is toppled, he will take the blame for the hardships caused by the externally imposed economic program to which he has been capitulating; but there is no reason to expect that program to be abandoned.
Indeed, the toppling of the government will create crisis conditions, and emergency steps will have to be made to restore stability. Multinational corporations and foreign investors will exploit this vulnerability, and it is predictable that even worse domestic economic conditions will result.
Without a clear economic vision, I can promise you that the new Sudan will plunge immediately into an abyss of debt, and control over the economy will be surrendered entirely to external powers.
I implore the protest movement to consider these obvious and predictable outcomes, and re-think their movement.
