Why should healthcare be a commodity? Security is not a commodity; safety is not a commodity; so why should essential medical treatment be bought and sold?
When people are dying of treatable or curable illnesses simply because they cannot afford healthcare, how is that different from people burning to death in a house fire because they can’t afford to pay for firefighters fees? What society would commodify firefighting?
If the argument against universal healthcare is that it would eliminate jobs in the insurance industry, well, do we not tell factory workers to learn new skills when their factories are closed or when they are replaced by automation? Maybe Insurance company workers should learn coding.
