People like Sam Harris and Bill Warner have a shallow reading of Islam which they think is the true understanding, and which is remarkably similar to the reading of Islam by radical extremists, who also believe theirs is the true reading. Islamophobes and Muslim extremists are also similar in their dismissal of over a millennia of scholarship, and the view that most of the Muslim population who shun their narrow radical interpretation are somehow not devout Muslims.
Both the Muslim extremists and the Islamaphobes dedicate themselves to convincing people that their own peculiar reading of Islam is accurate while most people reject it. And both are troubled by real existing moderate Islamic belief and practice.
Ironic, no?
