Muslims in the West (and increasingly around the world) have to be wary of quid pro quo “tolerance”. This is where Liberal non-Muslims agree to respect Muslim practices like the hijab, the Salah, or Ramadan fasting, while implicitly obliging Muslims to reciprocate by respecting elements of the Liberal platform. This is a trap and a trick. Things like hijab, Salah, and Ramadan require no compromise of values and beliefs by non-Muslims; while some of the things they might expect us to accept do compromise our beliefs. It is not equivalent.
Here we need to stick with “to you your Deen, and to me my Deen”…Don’t expect anything and don’t have expectations imposed upon you. Let each follow for themselves according to their beliefs. That is genuine tolerance, as opposed to coercion; which is what Liberals tend to do.
