You should understand that evil is intoxicating.
Small sins are like gateway drugs; they facilitate what is worse, and the impact on your mind and judgement becomes increasingly severe the more forbidden things you try.
Just like an alcoholic has to hit “rock bottom” before they change; the same is often true for those addicted to sin, and their “rock bottom” is almost always the moment their sins are exposed.
This is the moment at which they encounter the most hatred and condemnation, but it is also the moment at which there is the most hope for their rehabilitation.
