Expressions of religious observance must not be politicised. When things like hijab, growing beards, Islamic dress, etc, are associated with an oppositional political agenda, religious expression can be threatened by governments that view any observant Muslim as a political opponent.
This is just one of the dangers, a serous one which has disrupted the lives of Muslims around the world; that stems from political Islamism.
