90% of new cases of #coronavirus confirmed in Singapore are asymptomatic. Roughly half of the new cases confirmed in New York are younger people with only mild symptoms, but who sought testing out of concern.
Of course, the more people who get tested, the more cases will be confirmed; but this is irrelevant and not concerning.
The overwhelming majority of infections are asymptomatic or otherwise not critical. By alarming people about an increased number of cases among young people, you make it more likely that hospitals will be overburdened, and elderly patients will have to compete for care and resources; as more and more young people will either imagine symptoms or overreact to symptoms and seek treatment.
The main concern about younger people testing positive for the virus is their potential to transmit it to more vulnerable people; so again, the emphasis and the focus should be on protecting the elderly and those with preexisting health conditions.
