If we apply the logic of the #lockdown advocates, it is a wise financial plan to spend all your money on the lottery; and if your car is running low on gas, instead of filling the tank, you should leave it in the driveway and then construct a series of zip wires around the tops of buildings in the city to get where you want to go.
I can’t help but conclude that the current situation is the product of years of increasingly imbalanced thinking whereby the majority is obliged to appease and placate the fringes until all sense of relative significance and proportion has been lost.
Because a fraction of the population faces the danger of severe symptoms, and a much smaller fraction of that fraction face the risk of death, everyone should stay home. Because a fraction of the population wins money on the lottery, and a fraction of a fraction become rich on the lottery, everyone should incest their income in lottery tickets.
Because hospitals are under-equipped, everyone should stay home; thus creating the need for a much more massive spending program to prevent society from implosion, instead of just spending the available resources to enhance the capabilities of hospitals.
It is utterly nonsensical, and yet everyone is in agreement that it is the right thing to do.
We are suffering a pandemic of cognitive disintegration.
