For 2,000 years, Western Civilization has been trying to reconcile Greek reason with Christian spirituality; which is to say, it has been 2,000 years of internal conflict; ebbing and flowing, pushing and pulling, just as often with brilliantly creative results as with devastatingly destructive ones.
