It is an awkward fact of history that the West imposed the abolition of slavery on Africa, not slavery, which had already existed for centuries before any Westerner ever arrived in Africa.

At the peak of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, Africans owned more African slaves themselves than were sold into the Western hemisphere. Let that sink in.
