Ideally we would be smart enough to frustrate the gamble being made by the US on our predictable behavior, and NOT do what they expect.
It is good news, of course, that Robert Stephen Ford is NOT going to be the new US ambassador to Egypt, but it should indicate to us what the US would LIKE to see happen there.
The drastic intensification of the small arms flow to Western private security firms into the region (44,000 weapons in about a year), the increasing presence of American military advisors (Somalia, Libya, etc), the earlier intention to post Ford in Egypt…all of this spells STRIFE. Bloody, churning, devastating, violent chaos.
And it is all depending upon our predictable behavior. They are counting on our radicalization and polarization; counting on us to be reactionary, emotional, and impatient.
May Allah help us to disappoint them.
