The UAE executed Brother Khalid (formerly Ravinda Krishna Pillai) this morning at dawn.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’oon.
I have posted a few things about this already. Khalid was sentenced to death because he tried to escape from an Emirati who was trying to rape him. In the course of fleeing, he accidentally hit the assailant with his SUV as the he was trying to either block or board the vehicle.
Khalid was arrested, tortured, threatened, as were his wife and brother, until he signed a bogus confession in Arabic that would enable the prosecutor to charge him with premeditated murder.
He was tried and convicted and sentenced to death, although his crimes were essentially refusing to be sexually abused by a UAE national, and failing to drive conscientiously while frantically fleeing a rapist.
Many of us have worked hard to halt this appalling injustice, and no less than 6 press releases were sent to local media in the UAE. All completely ignored. Today, following the state murder of Brother Khalid, they suddenly discovered the story. Yet, even still, what they have chosen to report about Khalid is drawn exclusively from the state officials who tortured, threatened, framed, and finally killed him. Shame on them
May Allah forgive Brother Khalid, and grant him Jennat-ul-Firdaus, I pray that his tragic case will be exposed and lead to some kind of positive reform of that deeply dysfunctional system.
