It is claimed that the Awqaaf iin Egypt s closing mosques and revoking the licenses of imams, and censoring the Friday khutbahs, in an attempt to keep politics out of the mosques. Rather, they are invading the mosques with their politics and trying to silence legitimate dissent.
The qualifications for Awqaaf imams is according to the political criteria of alignment with the regime.
The Friday khutbahs are being muzzled, and the neighborhood gathering places of worship are being closed strictly for political reasons.
They are not imposing restrictions because of their respect for the mosques, but because of their fear of the mosques and their paranoid need to dominate every sphere in the society where their corruption may be exposed.
