US military aid to Egypt has been stable and consistent for decades without much being expected from the Egyptian government; however the coup has allowed Washington to redefine this relationship, requiring the military junta to prove itself if it wants aid to continue.
This is an ideal situation for the US, and for American weapons firms, bearing in mind that the bulk of military funding to Egypt actually goes directly to companies like Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon.
The same stipulation can now be applied to Egyptian military aid that has always applied to aid for Israel, namely, “if you want it, you have to use it.” Internal armed conflict and counter-insurgency operations obviously fulfill that stipulation.
