The actual signifficant actors in Egypt connected to the corporate imperial system, for whose sake the coup exists, are the multinational corporations and investment firms. Unlike the security forces they employ, these entities cannot absorb disruption; that’s why they need to make sure your attention is directed elsewhere.
The police and the army benefit from conflict (that is their market), normal businesses, however, do not. Investors can tolerate calculated risk, but not uncertainty, and definitely not loss.
Every corporate decision is made for one purpose alone, to increase share values for their shareholders. This is an incredibly reliable, transparent motive. That makes it a tremendous vulnerability. It makes their behavior and responses fairly straightforward to predict, and thus, to pressure and control.
This gives us a very accessible means of negotiating with corporate power and potentially democratizing its influence.
