In his 2 part interview El-Sisi repeated a number of times, while addressing the insatiably greedy poor who wastefully throw loaves of bread into their stomachs, “if people aren’t patient now, things will never get better. I have nothing else to give you.”
However, when talking about servicing the debt, no patience is expected of international lenders. In fact, what is due of debt payment and interest automatically supersedes the public welfare according to El-Sisi. This is not so much a statement about El-Sisi as it is about the reality of Egypt’s subjugation under the Neoliberal empire. The needs of the imperial masters are so paramount that to even suggest anything less than total acquiescence is unimaginable.
