The destruction of the power plant in Gaza is also surely aimed at getting the Gazans to accept Abu Mazen’s administration, to cut a deal with Israel for access to the indigenous energy resources.
It’s one of the reasons for the fabricated energy shortages in Egypt: to get the population to accept energy dependency on Israel. But the reality is that Egypt has plenty of energy resources for Egyptians’ needs; just not enough for Egyptians’ needs AND the demands of imperial corporate greed.
Abu Mazen was already colluding with Israel to divvy up Gaza’s natural gas reserves, but he doesn’t have authority in Gaza, and Hamas would never surrender Palestinian resources to the Israelis.
