Re: Israel, Eni and Union Fenosa
Dear Mr. Descalz,
Can you please comment on the position of Eni with regards to the ongoing military operations of Israel against the civilian population of Gaza, reportedly for the purpose of consolidating control of Palestinian natural gas reserves?
I understand that Eni is a 50% partner in Union Fenosa Gas, which has agreed to purchase natural gas from the Tamar field in Israel, through Noble Energy, to be processed at Fenosa’s plant in Damietta, Egypt. This gives Eni a considerable amount of leverage in Israel, particularly in areas related to Israeli efforts to exploit energy resources.
As a concerned individual citizen, I would like to see Eni, as a concerned corporate citizen, condemn the violence, and use its significant and decisive influence to intervene in this crisis, and convince Israel that gas reserves are not worth the blood of human beings.
Thank you
Shahid Bolsen
